The Minecraft Handbook - Revised
This is a revised version of what I've written so far. It's not the end, though... visit Minecraft.net to get the game!
Chapter I - Surviving your first night.
To start off, one of the main ingredients that you need to survive, is "coal". Coal is one of the most common resouces (actually, it really depends on what world you're in - but "normally" cole is found very often). Coal makes up approximately 1% of all material in Minecraft. It is most often found on rock faces and in small caves. Coal also comes in packs. When you find one block of coal, there are usually more in that area.
Another necessity is "wood" (wood is a go-to. Get wood before anything else). Wood unlocks the first secret of cole, "torches". Torches are a crucial part of life. Since there are no lightbulbs, torches are the best source of light (for now).
HOW TO MAKE TORCHES:
1. You will need sticks. Make sticks by first putting a piece of stump in the work space (select E or I to open), then you will get "wooden planks". Put the planks in the work space - then you will get sticks.
2. Put 1 stick in the work space, then put a piece of coal above it. Now you have a torch. You will gain 4 torches from one stick and one cole.
There you have it. Torches. Now, where do you use your torches? In a house, of course.
Now you have to find a hole in rock or dirt. Then you can block it off with the rest of the planks you collected (collect 11 trunk-parts at the start of your adventure, so you have enough to block out a hole and make torches). Once you find a hole, you can cut a window in your blocked-off space, by smashing one of the wood blocks in the middle. ANOTHER IMPORTANT WOOD DEVICE: take four blocks of wood and make a square. You will get what is called a "crafting bench". Place this device on the floor in one of the corners of your little hole. A crafting bench gives you more space to craft things (which will soon be important). Now you can FINALLY survive the night.
HINT: One way of telling what time it is, is to look at the sun.
CHAPTER II - The second day and Mining manuals.
Now, you see the sun coming over the horizon. That means day. To start off the next morning, gather up all the equipment that you put on the floor (remember, this hole is only used for your first night. So you'll have to build/find a new one. Be careful, still. There will still be monsters remaining from last night. MONSTERS THAT YOU MAY FIND AFTER NIGHT: The "creeper" is one. The creeper, if in close contact with you, will run at you and explode. run away before it does. "Spiders" are another creature to stay away from. Spiders will be docile at day time, but they can still attack. Any other monsters will burn in the sun and die, such as zombies and bow-skelos.
To survive this day and later tonight, you will need to make a "cobblestone sword". To make a sword, put a stick below two cobblestones. There is your sword. Cobblestone is found on rock faces (like cole) and anywhere where there is rock. Now that you have a sword, you can fight. Point the curser at your target and click the left mouse button. That will strike the enemy. Keep hitting the enemy until it dies, then collect what it leaves on the ground. Swords will become progressively important as you live. Later in the game, once you get to mining, you will be able to make iron swords, gold swords, diamond swords, and more. You can provide all sorts of protection for yourself.
Finally, let's get to mining, one of the most important things in minecraft. I will skim over the basic instructions of mining (later i will explain this in detail, but for now mining won't be AS important). All you have to do, is dig slowly down, leaving steps for yourself. After digging a while, you may see spotted rock. Dig and collect that rock. The spots mean that it has some kind of mineral in it. Then, check your inventory to see what it is. HINT: It's best to put torches in your mine, so you can see if there's any spotted rock ahead of you.
Chapter III - Your second night and Building a cabin.
The sun has set. Darkness falls again. What will you do?! Remember, you have your sword. Fight the monsters of the dark, until day. You will soon have collected many important and exotic items. The sun rises once again. With what you have in your inventory, build a house. HOW TO BUILD A HOUSE: First, you have to cut a hole in the ground. then, you fill the hole in with wood. next, you make wooden walls, building up to a ceiling. now, close the whole thing off, Put up torches on the walls, and go to your inventory. Put the work bench down and right-click it. Now that you're on the work bench, stack two rows of three wood blocks, next to each other. You will make a door. Go outside (by breaking exactly two wooden blocks of your house). Then, put in the door by right-clicking the hole that you cut in your house. There you go! Your house is finished!!!
You can decorate it with things you collect (like signs, windows and flowers, which I will talk about later). For now, you are monster-free. You can wait out the night again.
Chapter IV - Exploration and small domination.
The sun is bright in the pretty morning sky. This is the perfect time to set off on a journey not too far from home. You may collect many things. A FEW IMPORTANT JOURNEY ITEMS: Wool can be made into beds. With beds, you can sleep instead of wait. Then there is iron. Iron Can be made into strong, durable tools, such as swords, axes, and more. Third, you will want wood. wood can be made into so many things. You may think it's simple, but just bring it.
I haven't told you how to get any of these items or how, in iron's case, to make them possible to build with. BOILING DOWN: Iron, our first subject to boil so far, is dug up as unusable ore. To make any use out of the substance, you must boil it down. Make an oven by building a circle of cobblestone in the workshop. Now you can put your iron ore in the oven with some coal below it. Let it boil for a while, then check back later. Once it's done, you can use it to build.
WHERE TO FIND THE ITEMS: Iron ore is found below thick rock and dirt. It's harder to find than coal. Next is wool. Wool is found, of course, on sheep. Shear the sheep by hitting them with a shear. Build a shear by putting one iron ingot diagonal from another.
Now that you're off adventuring, "small domination" may come into play. To make a small domination, you should build a series of structures and line the vicinity with torches. This area is now considered a town. Later in the game you might want to wall it off, but for now your supply is too little. Another project for later is making these places everywhere. Since the world of minecraft is infinite, You still don't want to stray too far from your civilization.
